Arrive in Kuwait

We arrived in Kuwait at 11pm Kuwait time. That's about 3pm Louisiana time. We arrived at the airport - and had to go to the customs office first - where we were issued tourist Visas. That cost 3KD (Kuwaiti Dinar) - which equals about 12 US Dollars. It was a relatively easy process. After that - we went through customs. One interesting thing we noticed was women and children do not wait in line. They're walked up to the front of the line at all times.

We went to baggage claim to get our luggage - and we were greeted by locals who wanted to help us ... for a fee, of course. First thing you see when you exit baggage: Starbucks. It was pretty neat, actually.

We were met by the Army's Media Transit Team. They were really nice - and loaded us up in their SUV to get us to the base. (We're not allowed to mention the name of the base we're on in Kuwait.) Parking was a nightmare because the Kuwait City International Airport is also a shopping mall. In addition - Thursday in Kuwait - is like Friday in America. Kuwaitis observe their weekends (our Saturday and Sunday) on Friday and Saturday, and they work from Sunday through Thursday.

The base was about 30 minutes from the airport, and we were searched as soon as we arrived. By the time we arrived it was after midnight. More to come....
